DTC Descriptor
DTC B2991 00
-
Passenger Door Ajar Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) supplies a 12 V signal to the door latches. When a door is open, the switch within the door latch closes providing a ground path for the ajar signal which causes to voltage to drop to 0 V The BCM will detect the voltage drop and then communicates this status to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) via a serial data message. The IPC, upon receipt of this serial data message, will illuminate the ajar icon.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The system voltage is 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The BCM detects a short to ground in a passenger door ajar circuit for greater than 10 minutes.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The door ajar indicator continuously illuminated.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will become a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, with the passenger and rear doors closed, observe the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw. parameter while opening and closing each door. The parameter should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect harness connector at the passenger, left rear and right rear door latch assemblies.
2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter is Door Closed.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 1 at the A23P door latch assembly-passenger for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 body control module.
3. Connect the harness connector at the A23P door latch assembly-passenger.
4. Observe the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw. parameter while opening and closing the passenger door. The parameter should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
• If the value does not change, test or replace the A23P door latch assembly-passenger.
5. Connect the harness connector at the A23LR door latch assembly-left rear.
6. Observe the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw. parameter while opening and closing the left rear door. The parameter should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
• If the value does not change, test or replace the A23LR door latch assembly-left rear.
7. Connect the harness connector at the A23RR door latch assembly-right rear.
8. Observe the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw. parameter while opening and closing the right rear door. The parameter should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
• If the value does not change, test or replace the A23RR door latch assembly-right rear.
9. If all circuit test normal, replace the K9 body control module.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate A23 door latch assembly.
2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:
* A23LR door latch assembly-left rear signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* A23RR door latch assembly-right signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
* A23P door latch assembly-passenger signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
• If not the specified value, replace the door latch.
3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 2 ohms between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:
* A23LR door latch assembly-left rear signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* A23RR door latch assembly-right signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
* A23P door latch assembly-passenger signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
• If greater than the specified range, replace the door latch.
