DTC Descriptor
DTC C0280 00
-
Stability System Active Too Long
Circuit/System Description
The brake pressure modulator valve assembly contains an isolation solenoid valve and a dump solenoid valve for each wheel and a traction control/stability control prime solenoid valve and isolation solenoid valve for each brake circuit. The solenoid valves are not engaged during normal system operation. When the ABS, traction control or electronic stability program is required the electronic brake control module (EBCM) turns the required solenoid valves ON.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition switch is in the ON position.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The EBCM detects the electronic stability program is active for more than 15 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The following actions may occur:
* The EBCM disables the ABS, Traction Control System/Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for the duration of the ignition cycle.
* The ABS indicators turn ON.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
* The history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive fault-free drive cycles have occurred.
Diagnostic Aids
* This DTC may be stored as a history DTC without affecting the operation of the module. If stored only as a history DTC and not retrieved as a current DTC, do not replace the module.
* An improperly mounted or loose combination yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor or steering angle sensor.
* Inspect for one tire that has improper air pressure or improper size.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, verify that DTC C0186, C0196, or C0710 is not set as a present DTC.
• If any listed DTC is present, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle diagnose that DTC prior to continuing on with this diagnostic.
2. Ignition OFF, inspect the steering wheel angle sensor and multi-axis acceleration sensor for correct installation.
• If loose or incorrect installation is diagnosed, correct the installation of the component.
3. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for setting the DTC and verify that DTC C0280 does not reset.
• If the DTC resets, replace the EBCM and verify DTC does not reset. If the DTC resets, replace the brake pressure modulator valve assembly.
