A/T - 700R4 No-Reverse, Shudder, Or Delayed Reverse
TSB 85-29SUBJECT: 700-R4
A condition of no-reverse, shudder in reverse, or delayed reverse may be caused by the low reverse piston binding in the case. The problem is that the tab on the piston is too wide, causing it to bind in the case notch. To check for interference, place the piston without seals into the case. If the piston rocks back and forth, file the sides of the tab until the piston will fit flat into the case, with no binding. Do not remove excessive material, or the piston could rotate to a point where it might interfere with the parking pawl.
