Engine: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery cables.
2. Scribe alignment marks on hood and hood hinge, then remove hood.
3. Drain cooling system, then remove radiator hoses from radiator.
4. Remove upper fan shroud, then the radiator and fan.
5. Disconnect heater hoses from engine.
6. Disconnect wiring harness at bulkhead, then remove air cleaner.
7. Disconnect accelerator cable from carburetor, then the fuel line from frame.
8. Disconnect battery ground cable from engine block, then remove the ground strap from bulkhead.
9. Raise and support vehicle.
10. Remove clutch bell crank, then disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold.
11. Remove motor mount through bolt, left hand body mount bolts and left air dam bolts.
12. Raise body to gain access to upper bell housing bolts, then remove the bolts.
13. Lower body, then remove flywheel dust shield.
14. Lower vehicle and support transmission with suitable jack.
15. If equipped, disconnect power steering pump and/or A/C compressor and position aside.
16. Install suitable lifting device, then remove engine from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install.
