Excessive Exhaust Smoke


1. Ensure engine is thoroughly warmed up.
2. Check intake system for restrictions.
3. Ensure all air and water has been removed from fuel filter.
4. Check seal on full load adjust bolt.
5. Check exhaust system for restrictions.
6. Check fuel quality.
7. Check notched line on injection pump flange, and reset timing as necessary.
8. Check fuel spray pattern and ensure injection starting pressure is 1493 psi.
9. Ensure valve clearances are satisfactory. Refer to specifications.
10. Check compression pressure in each cylinder. Standard value should be 441 psi.
11. Ensure proper installation of timing belt and camshaft.
12. Check delivery valve for sticking.
13. Check condition of valve guides and seals.
14. Replace or readjust setting of injection pump.
