Owner's Letter
July 13, 1989Dear Chevrolet Owner:
This notice is sent to inform you that Chevrolet Motor Division is conducting a recall campaign that includes your vehicle.
REASON FOR THIS RECALL
General Motors has determined that certain 1989 Chevrolet R/V Series Trucks equipped with 5.7L or 6.2L engines with heavy duty emissions, and built at Janesville, were shipped without the specified emission (tune-up) label. Without the correct label, these vehicles do not meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act.
WHAT WE WILL DO
Since a label can be easily installed and to reduce your inconvenience, we are enclosing a label with installation instructions. The label may be installed by you on the air cleaner housing of your vehicle. However, if you desire, your Chevrolet dealer will install the label for you at no charge.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Please let us know if you elect to install the label yourself by completing the enclosed postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us. This assists us in assuring that all affected vehicles have been corrected.
Should you choose to have your local Chevrolet Dealer install the label for you, please bring the owner reply card along with the enclosed label to your servicing Chevrolet dealer. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid reply card and returning it to us. Should your dealer not schedule a service date within a reasonable time, you should contact the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center by calling 1-800-222-1020.
If your dealer and the Customer Assistance Center are unable to remedy this condition within a reasonable time, you may wish to advise the Environmental Protection Agency, at the following address: Director, Manufacturer's Operations Division (EN340F), United States Environmental Protection Agency, 401 M Street. S.W., Washington, D.C. 20460. To ensure your full protection under the emission warranty made applicable to your vehicle by Federal Law, and your right to participate in future recalls, it is recommended that you have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible. Failure to do so could legally be determined to be lack of proper maintenance of your vehicle. Also, your vehicle may fail a state or local emission inspection test if this recall work is not accomplished.
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
LABEL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Open hood of vehicle.
2. Using a clean, dry cloth: wipe dirt, oil, etc. from side of air cleaner (see illustration below).
3. Remove backing from the new label and apply to clean panel.
4. Beginning at the center of the label and using a clean, dry cloth, smooth and secure the new label. Any air bubbles can be removed by puncturing with a pin and smoothing with the cloth.
NOTICE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE OR LOOSEN THE NEW LABEL ONCE IT HAS BEEN APPLIED, AS THIS WILL DEFACE THE LABEL.
