Subject: SEAT BELT TEMPORARILY INOPERATIVE AFTER EXTENDED CHILD SEAT USAGE
Model and Year: 1989-90 M VAN AND 1990 L VAN WITH BENCH SEATS
Some 1989-1990 M/L van owners may experience, on a temporary basis, the inability to pull out (extend) the right hand intermediate seat lap belt after the seat belt is used to retain a child seat for an extended period of time without periodically cycling (retracting and extending) the belt.
To prevent this condition from recurring, it is necessary to replace the seat belt assembly with an internally modified (shortened pendulum nib height) belt assembly. There is no visual difference between the existing and revised seat belt assembly. Part numbers have been changed to identify the revised assemblies.

REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE: (Figure 1)
NOTE: The following instructions apply only to the RIGHT outer side of bench seat.
1. Remove nut (1) and disconnect the retractor assembly (2) from the support bracket (3,) and remove seat belt from seat.
2. From the list of part numbers below, use the applicable part and install new seat belt assembly (retractor assembly) to the support bracket nut (1 and 2). Tighten the nut to 53 N-m (39 lbs.ft.).
