Distressed Wire Connectors

Vehicle Applications:

Some high-mileage 1991-1992 HYDRA-MATIC 4L80-E transmission wiring harness electrical connectors may crack or break on disassembly rendering the connectors inoperable. For proper transmission identification see Figure 1.

This could be the result of the electrical connectors being pried off of their connection point with a screwdriver or other similar tool when removal of the control valve body is required for servicing of a unit. A distressed connector requires the replacement of the entire wiring harness assembly. For connector location see Figure 2.

To prevent connector distress, do not pry them off their connections. Instead disconnect the main electrical connector from the transmission case and remove the entire wiring harness assembly with the valve body. Avoid removing the electrical connectors unless the procedure is absolutely necessary (i.e., replacement of the wiring harness).
