EASY ENTRY SECOND SEAT IS HARD TO SLIDE

Model and Year:
1992-C/K SUBURBAN

Some owners of 1992 C/K Suburbans may comment that it takes too much effort to slide their easy entry second seat forward. To correct this condition, a helper spring (P/N 12540258) and spring insulator (P/N 15665219) has been developed. Installation of the helper spring will reduce the effort required to slide the seat forward.

The helper spring has been installed in vehicles built after the following VIN breakpoints:

NJ302423

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the side track cover by removing the three (3) retaining screws.

Important:
Some vehicles were built with holes for the helper spring already in place. If, after inspection of the seat, it is determined the seat frame has been drilled (Figures 1 and 2), go to step 10.

2. Remove the easy entry second seat by removing the two (2) front track covers and the four (4) seat retaining bolts and lifting the seat out.

Important:
The seat must be slid forward to expose the rear seat retaining bolts.

3. Turn the seat on its inboard side, center punch and drill two 3.8 mm (9/64 in.) holes in the frame of the seat. See Figures 1 and 2 for the location of the holes.

4. Remove the burrs from the edges of the holes.

5. With the seat tracks latched (tracks in the forward position), install the front seat retaining bolts.

Important:
The seat bolts should not be tightened, but the top of the track should be able to clear the heads of the bolts.

6. Slide the seat forward. Install the rear seat retaining bolts.

Important:
The seat bolts should not be tightened, but the top of the track should be able to clear the heads of the bolts.

7. Slide the seat rearward and latch it in place. This will keep the tracks parallel and square when the bolts are tightened.

8. Tighten the two (2) front seat bolts then the two (2) rear seat bolts, in that order, to 55 N-m. (40 lbs.ft.).

Be careful not to shift the tracks during tightening.

9. Install the two (2) front track covers.

10. Slide the spring insulator (P/N 15665219) onto the spring (P/N 12540258).

11. Slide the seat forward. Install the hook end of the helper spring in the front hole. Stretch the spring and install the flat end of the spring in the rear bracket hole (Figure 3). Position the spring insulator under the track latch to prevent rattle.

Important:
The spring MUST be installed after the seat has been installed into the vehicle.

12. Install the side track cover and the three retaining screws.

13. Check for correct operation of the seat.
