Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fuel Filter Replacement:
Quick-Connect Fittings:
IMPORTANT: There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace fuel filter if it is restricted.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable,
2. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Relief. Service and Repair
3. Quick-connect fittings. Refer to Servicing Quick-Connect Fittings. Service and Repair
4. Fuel filter.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury: Before installing a new filter, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both tube ends of the filter. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.)
1. Remove protective caps from from new filter.
2. New plastic connector retainers on filter inlet and outlet tubes.
- Install in same positions as on old filter.
3. Quick-connect fittings. Refer to Servicing Quick-Connect Fittings. Service and Repair
4. Position fuel return pipe and fuel sender electrical connector under in-pipe fuel filter bracket.
5. Fuel filter in mounting bracket on frame.
6. Tighten fuel filler cap.
7. Negative battery cable.
INSPECT
- Turn ignition switch to "ON," position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position. and check for fuel leaks.
