Front Door - Water Leaks

File In Section: 10 - Body
Bulletin No.: 46-15-03

Subject:
Side Door Water Leaks (Replace Weatherstrip)

Models:
1994 Chevrolet and GMC Truck S/T Pickups

Condition Some owners may comment that water is leaking into their vehicle through the side doors. Symptoms of this condition are wet carpet and/or water around the door sill plate.

Cause This condition may occur if the upper door seal adhesive does not bridge the gap between the roof and the A-pillar void. The screw holes in the A-pillar for the windshield side reveal molding may also allow a water path into the cab. In addition, water may run along the primary door seal and enter the carrier at the transition of 3-metal thickness.

Correction This condition may be corrected by replacing the side door weatherstrip (Figure 1:A). The new weatherstrip uses the C/K style carrier to help eliminate water leaks. It also has a reduced bulb size to decrease closing effort. The service procedure is as follows:

1. Remove the existing weatherstrip by pulling it from the pinchweld flange.

2. Position the preformed corner of the new weatherstrip in the upper rear corner of the door opening.

3. Push the weatherstrip onto the flange, starting at the preformed corner, and working around the entire edge of the door opening.
