EGR DTC 32 (Install New MEMCAL)
Models:
1995 Chevrolet and GMC Truck M/L Vans with 4.3L Engine (VIN W - RPO L35)
Condition
Some vehicles identified above may illuminate the MIL and/or store a DTC 32 (EGR ERROR) with no noticeable driveability concern (rough idle and/or surge, etc.). This may occur while climbing a grade, towing a trailer or driving into a strong head wind.
Other vehicles may illuminate the MIL and/or store a DTC 32 (EGR Error) AND exhibit noticeable driveability concerns (rough idle and/ or surge, etc.).
Cause
During EGR operation, the EGR valve may not respond to the commanded signal in the time allowed.
Correction
Vehicles setting a DTC 32, which were built before the VIN breakpoint listed below, should:
1. Have the Prom ID checked with a Tech 1.
2. Vehicles identified as having Prom ID's with the old calibration should have the new MEMCAL listed below installed.
3. Vehicles which already have the new service MEMCAL and have a stored DTC 32 should continue to be serviced using strategy based diagnosis.
4. Vehicles exhibiting driveability concerns with the new MEMCAL should continue to be diagnosed with strategy based diagnosis procedures.
Notice:
The new MEMCALs listed below have also been released for a condition listed as "Driveline Growl in 4th Gear After TCC Applied."
