Service Procedure
1. Disconnect Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector. Loosen throttle body hose clamp and remove retainers from air duct/air cleaner assembly. Move aside air duct/air cleaner assembly as one unit.2. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor from engine wiring harness. Cut electrical connector off of crankshaft sensor assembly.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. ON 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ONLY - Remove front axle under body shield (steering linkage shield).
5. Remove crankshaft position sensor retaining bolt and sensor from engine front cover (Figure 1, Item 1)
6. Cut and discard lower plastic harness retainer (rosebud) at front cover bracket. Remove crankshaft position sensor assembly from vehicle.
7. Carefully route new crankshaft position sensor harness (Figure 1, Item 2) (connector end) up between the water pump and engine block/front cover on right (passenger) side of engine. Retaining clip on harness electrical connector (Figure 1, Item 3) should be facing front of vehicle as it is moved up into position.
NOTICE:
DO NOT use excessive force which may damage connector and/or harness. The use of a "Pick-Up Tool" to hold connector, and a long narrow screwdriver to move and position connector and harness will prove useful.
8. Install crankshaft position sensor in engine front cover. Check to see that sensor is fully seated in front cover prior to torquing down retaining bolt. Torque crankshaft sensor retaining bolt to 7-9 Nm (62-80 lb.in). USE HAND TOOLS ONLY. DO NOT EXCEED TORQUE SPECIFICATION. Install new plastic harness retainer (rosebud) to engine front cover bracket. Check for sufficient clearance between wiring harness and harmonic balancer.
9. ON 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ONLY - Install front axle under body shield, torque bolts to 32 Nm (283 lb.in)
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Complete routing of crankshaft position harness. Harness should be routed under top heater hose and away from EGR valve base.
NOTICE:
DO NOT use excessive force which may damage connector and/or harness. Use a long pick-up tool attached to connector retaining clip loop to raise connector and position it properly. Connect crankshaft position sensor harness to engine wiring harness.
12. Reinstall air duct/air cleaner assembly. Tighten hose clamp and install retainers. Connect IAT sensor harness.
13. Start and run engine one minute to verify correct engine operation (no malfunction indicator lamp illumination)
14. Install Campaign Identification Label.
15. Fill fuel tank and wash before returning vehicle to owner (this is to be done only once for vehicles involved in 95-C-31, 95-C-33, 95-C-34 and 95-C-35).
