CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When the inflatable restraint control module recognizes IGNITION 1 voltage, applied to terminal 10, is greater than 8.2 volts, the inflatable restraint control module - flashes the AIR BAG warning lamp seven times to verify operation. At this time the inflatable restraint control module performs POWER-ON tests followed by the RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT test and the CONTINUOUS MONITORING tests. Upon detection of a malfunction, the inflatable restraint control module sets a current diagnostic trouble code and illuminates the AIR BAG warning lamp. The inflatable restraint control module will clear current diagnostic trouble codes and move them to a history file when:
^ The malfunction is no longer detected. The ignition switch is cycled.
^ This does not include DTCs 18, 24, 51, 53 and 71.
DTCs 18, 24, 51, and 53 are latched codes. You cannot clear a latched code. DTC 71 may not clear after you issue a CLEAR CODES command. Repair the malfunction that set the DTC before you replace the inflatable restraint control module.

2. This test confirms a current malfunction. If no current malfunction is occurring (History DTC set), reference the Diagnostic Aids for the appropriate diagnostic trouble code. Do not replace the inflatable restraint control module for a History DTC.
3. This test checks for a malfunction introduced into the SIR system during the diagnostic process. It is extremely unlikely that a malfunctioning inflatable restraint control module would cause a new malfunction to occur during the diagnostic process.
4. When you have found all circuitry outside the inflatable restraint control module to operate properly, as indicated by the appropriate diagnostic table, then and only then should the inflatable restraint control module be replaced.
