Owner Letter

Dear Chevrolet Truck Owner,

Your complete satisfaction with your 1996 Chevrolet Blazer or S-10 Pickup, equipped with the 4.3L engine, is most important to Chevrolet.

Recently, we became aware of some 1996 Blazers & S-10 Pickups, similar to yours, that used engine oil early in the life of the vehicle, usually within the first 1,000 miles. You may already have been contacted by letter or phone in December. Our investigation revealed that some engines may have some mis-positioned valve seals which caused the oil consumption condition. Replacement of the valve seals will correct the condition.

The proper way to determine if your engine may have the conditions to regularly monitor your engine oil level, preferably at each fuel fill during the first few thousand miles. If oil consumption is one or more quarts per 2,000 miles, you may have mis-positioned valve seals. IF your vehicle does not exhibit oil usage at low mileage, your engine most likely does not have this condition.

Replacement of valve seals can be made by your Chevrolet dealer. Please contact your dealer to arrange a convenient service appointment. Enclosed is an owner reply card that identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making any necessary correction. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid reply card and returning it to us.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this situation may cause you. We have enclosed a coupon for a complimentary oil change and chassis lube at any Chevrolet dealer, whether your vehicle requires valve seal replacement or not. We have taken this action to ensure your Chevrolet Truck provides years of pleasurable driving experience.
