The purpose of this bulletin is to advise the retail and wholesale service personnel that effective February 28, 1997 the subject campaign will be terminated. After this date, warranty claims cannot be processed using the "V" and "T" labor operations from the campaign bulletin.

The reasons for this termination are: (1) engines produced with this condition would be expected to exhibit the condition early in the life of the vehicle, usually within the first 1,000 - 2,000 miles and (2) oil consumption on vehicles with mileage in excess of 2,000 miles are expected to be unrelated to the condition associated with this campaign.

In the future, owner complaints with oil consumption are to be corrected using existing warranty practices. VISS will be updated to reflect this change and a statement added that refers to this bulletin.
