Radiator: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT1. Coolant from the radiator.
2. Upper fan shroud.
3. Radiator hoses from radiator.
4. Transmission oil cooler lines from radiator.
^ Use a small pick-type tool or screwdriver to release one of the open ends of the retaining clip.
^ Discard the retaining clips.
5. Engine oil cooler lines from the radiator.
^ Use a small pick-type tool or screwdriver to release one of the open ends of the retaining clip.
^ Discard the retaining clips.
6. Overflow hose.
7. Grille.
8. Four bolts attaching A.C. condenser to radiator.
9. Radiator.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Radiator.
2. Four bolts attaching A.C. condenser to radiator.
3. Grille.
4. Overflow hose.
CAUTION:
^ Do not reuse the existing retaining clips removed from the cooler line connector fittings. The retaining clips being put Into the cooler line connector fittings must be new.
^ Make sure the retaining clip engages all three slots In the connector fittings. Failure to properly Install the connector clips could cause the cooler lines to come loose and cause damage to the engine and/or transmission.
5. Retaining clips into the cooler line connector fittings.
^ Using your thumb and forefinger, insert a new retaining clip into one of the three recesses in the connector fitting. With one end of the retaining clip engaged in the connector fitting slot, use your thumb and rotate the retaining clip around the connector fitting until it snaps into place.
6. Oil cooler lines to the connector fittings.
^ Ensure a click is heard and/or felt.
^ Pull back sharply on the pipe to assure the pipe is fastened into the connector fitting.
7. Transmission oil cooler lines into the connects fittings.
^ Ensure a click is heard and/or felt.
^ Pull back sharply on the pipe to assure the pip is fastened into the connector fitting.
8. Radiator hoses.
9. Upper fan shroud bolts and upper fan shroud.
CAUTION: Two sealant pellets GM PIN 3634621 must be added to the radiator Inlet hose whenever the coolant system Is drained and refilled with fresh coolant. Failure to use the correct sealant pellets may result in premature coolant pump leakage. Do not add the pellets to the coolant recovery bottle since this may prevent the coolant system from operating properly.
10. Coolant to the radiator. Leak test the system.
