Cylinder Head Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove the engine cover.
4. Remove the intake manifold.
5. Remove the exhaust manifold.
6. Remove the generator and the bracket.
7. Disconnect the wiring harness and the clip at the rear of the head.
8. Disconnect the coolant sensor wire.
9. Disconnect the spark plug wires.
10. Remove the valve rocker arm covers.
11. Remove the spark plugs.
12. Remove the pushrods.
13. Remove the cylinder head bolts.
14. Remove the cylinder head.
15. Remove the head gasket.
16. Clean the carbon deposits from the combustion chambers with the J 8089, or equivalent carbon removing brush.
17. Clean all traces of the old head gasket from the cylinder head and the block.
18. Clean the cylinder head bolt threads and the threads in the block.
19. Inspect the sealing surfaces of the block and the cylinder head for nicks, heavy scratches, or other damage. Refer to Cylinder Head Clean and Inspect.
