Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Cleaning

At least once a year, the front face of the radiator should be cleaned. Bugs, leaves, etc. can be removed by using compressed air to blow through the radiator from the rear towards the front of the vehicle. If compressed air is not available, water can be substituted using the same procedure.

WARNING: NEVER spray water on a hot radiator. The resulting steam could cause personal injury.

CAUTION: The radiator fins are necessary for good heat transfer and should NOT be brushed as this damages the fins, reducing heat transfer.
