Wiper Arm: Service and Repair

Description:






REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Turn ignition switch to "ACCY" position.
2. Set wiper switch to "PULSE" position.
3. Turn ignition switch off when wiper arms are in the innerwipe position and not moving.
4. Washer hose elbow (1) from air inlet screen.
5. Cover (2) from nut (3).
6. Nut (3) from wiper arm assembly (4) and wiper linkage assembly drive shaft (F).

Important
^ If wiper arm assembly cannot be removed from wiper transmission assembly drive shaft by rocking, a battery puller may be used.

7. Wiper arm assembly (4) from wiper drive system module drive shaft (F) by rocking.
8. Wiper blade assembly (5) from wiper arm assembly (4).
A. Push in button (G) of wiper blade assembly clip (H) and remove wiper blade assembly (5) from inside radius of wiper arm assembly (4).
B. Bring wiper arm assembly (4) out through opening in wiper blade assembly (5).

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Wiper blade assembly (5) on wiper arm assembly (4).

Important
^ LH and RH wiper arm assemblies should not be interchanged. Wiper arms are stamped "LH" and "RH."

2. Wiper arm assembly (4) on wiper drive system module drive shaft (F).
A. Put ignition switch in "ACCY" position.
B. Set wiper switch to "PULSE" position. Windshield wiper system should be operating.
C. Turn ignition switch off when wipers are in the innerwipe position and not moving.

Important
^ Measuring device must be held at 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the wiper blade assembly (5).

D. Install wiper arm assembly (4) on wiper drive system module drive shaft (F) while maintaining a distance of 70 mm (2.75 in.) (LH) or 65 mm (2.56 in.) (RH) between wiper blade assembly (5) and air inlet screen.
3. Nut (3) on wiper drive system module drive shaft (F) and wiper arm assembly (4).

Tighten
^ Nut to 26 Nm (19 lb ft.).

4. Cover (2) on nut (3).
5. Washer hose elbow (1) on air inlet screen.
6. Operate wipers and check for proper operation.
