Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

The Fuel Filter Is Located On The Drivers Side Sub Frame Forward Of The Fuel Tank:






Removal Procedure

Important: Important there is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if it is restricted.

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release Procedure.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
4. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect fittings.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.
7. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
8. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter from the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.


Installation Procedure

Caution: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact pant number for that application. The applicable service procedure will identify, where necessary, those fasteners that must be replaced after removal; or those fasteners that require the use of thread locking compound or thread sealant.

Caution: UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to pants and systems.

1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-pipe fuel filter.
2. Install the in-pipe fuel filter into the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.
3. Install the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
4. install the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.

Tighten
- In-pipe fuel filter bracket attaching nut to 10 Nm (90 lb. in.).

5. Install the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
6. Install the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
9. Install the negative battery cable.
