Wiper Gear Box: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURETools Required
J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the wiper arm assemblies.
3. Remove the air inlet grille panel.
4. Remove the screws retaining the transmission to the vehicle.
5. Using the J 39232, unseat the transmission assembly from the wiper motor crank arm.
6. Remove the transmission assembly through the access openings in the top of the cowl.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Tools Required
J 39529 Wiper Linkage Installer
1. Install the transmission assembly to the vehicle.
2. Install the screws that retain the transmission assembly to the vehicle.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 14 N.m (10 lb ft).
3. Lubricate the inside of the crank arm socket with white lithium grease, GM P/N 9985885 or equivalent.
IMPORTANT: Assemble the transmission assembly to the crank arm past the second detent. Compress the seal to a maximum height of 25 mm (1 inch).
4. Using the J 39529, install the transmission drive link to the wiper motor crank arm.
5. Install the cowl vent grille.
6. Install the wiper arm assemblies.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
