Flywheel: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
2. Remove the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
3. Remove the bolts and the engine flywheel.





Important: If replacing the manual transmission engine flywheel, NEW balance weights must be installed into the NEW engine flywheel in the same location as the old engine flywheel.

4. Note the position of any manual transmission engine flywheel balance weights for assembly (if applicable).
5. Clean and inspect all parts. Refer to Engine Flywheel Clean and Inspect

Installation Procedure

Important: If replacing the engine flywheel note the position of the original balance weights (if applicable). Balance weights must be installed into the new engine flywheel in the same location.





1. Note the position of the engine flywheel balance weights and install the engine flywheel balance weights as required.
A properly installed engine flywheel balance weight will be flush or slightly below flush with the face of the engine flywheel.





2. Install the engine flywheel to the crankshaft.
3. Align the locator hole to the pin.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the engine flywheel bolts.
^ Tighten the engine flywheel bolts in sequence to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
6. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
