Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair




Accumulator Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Discharge and recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the electrical connectors.
3. Disconnect the suction hose. Refer to Suction Hose Replacement (LG5) Suction Hose Replacement (LG5)Suction Hose Replacement (LP4/L21) Suction Hose Replacement (LP4/L21).




4. Remove the accumulator switch and o-ring.
5. Remove the evaporator fitting (2) from the accumulator (1).
Remove the O-ring seal.
Discard the O-ring seal.
6. Loosen the accumulator bracket bolt.
7. Remove the accumulator from the bracket.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the accumulator (1) to the bracket. If the accumulator is being replaced. Refer to Refrigerant Oil Distribution Specifications [1][2]Refrigerant Oil.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt (6).

Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt to 6 Nm (53 lb in).

3. Install the NEW O-ring seal.
Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
4. Install the accumulator switch and o-ring.

Tighten the accumulator switch to 5 Nm (46 lb in).

5. Install the NEW O-ring seal.
Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
6. Install the suction hose. Refer to Suction Hose Replacement (LG5) Suction Hose Replacement (LG5)Suction Hose Replacement (LP4/L21) Suction Hose Replacement (LP4/L21).
7. Install the NEW O-ring seal.
Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
8. Install the evaporator fitting to the accumulator.

Tighten the evaporator fitting to 41 Nm (16 lb ft).

9. Install the electrical connectors.
10. Add the refrigerant to the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
11. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing Leak Testing.
