Compressor Replacement (LG5)

Removal Procedure

1. Discharge and recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the electrical connector from the compressor, as necessary.




4. Remove the compressor hose fitting, washer (2), and the bolt (3).

Important: When removing the sealing washers, prevent dirt and foreign material from getting onto the following sealing surfaces:


* The washers

* The hose fitting

* The compressor ports


Use a lint-free cloth in order to clean all of the sealing surfaces.


5. Remove the compressor sealing washers.
6. Discard the compressor sealing washers.
7. Remove the refrigerant hoses from the compressor.




8. Remove the following components from the front of the compressor:

1. The nuts
2. The bolts
3. The washers

9. Remove the following components from the rear of the compressor:

1. The nuts
2. The bolts
3. The washers

10. Remove the compressor.

Installation Procedure

1. Fill the compressor. If the compressor is being replaced, refer to Refrigerant Oil Distribution Specifications [1][2]Refrigerant Oil.

Important: When installing the sealing washers, prevent dirt and foreign material from getting onto the sealed surfaces of the following components:


* The washers

* The hose fitting

* The compressor ports


Clean all of the sealing surfaces with a lint-free cloth.


Do not reuse the sealing washers.


Do not oil the sealing washers prior to assembly.


2. Install the NEW sealing washers onto the pilots of the hose fitting.




3. Ensure that the washers (4) bottom against the surface of the fitting (1).
4. Install the refrigerant hose fitting on the compressor. Secure the refrigerant hose fitting with the washer and bolt.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

Important: Ensure that there is a 1.2 mm (0.047 in) space between the fitting and the compressor rear head.


5. Install the washer and hand tighten the compressor hose block fitting bolt.

Tighten the refrigerant hose fitting bolt to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).

6. Install the following parts on the rear of the compressor:

1. The bolts
2. The washers
3. The nuts




7. Install the following parts on the front of the compressor:

1. The bolts
2. The washers
3. The nuts

* Tighten the compressor rear mounting bolts to 53 Nm (39 lb ft).
* Tighten the compressor front mounting bolt to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).

8. Install the electrical connector to the compressor, as necessary.
9. Install the drive belt.
Adjust the drive belt.
10. Install the refrigerant to the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
11. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing Leak Testing.
