Heater Output Temperature Check

Heater Output Temperature Check

Check the heat output of the heater system using the following procedure:

Preparation

1. Ensure that the engine is sufficiently cool.
2. Remove the radiator cap.
3. Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
4. Set the heater controls to HEATER mode, full HOT(+) temperature and HI(+) blower speed.
5. When the coolant flow in the radiator is visible through the filler neck, install the radiator cap.

Temperature Check

Drive the vehicle when the engine is sufficiently warmed up (after approximately 20 minutes of operation). Drive the vehicle at 48 km/h (30 mph) and use an accurate thermometer in order to determine the temperature of the outside air and the temperature of the air discharged at the floor outlets. Minimum acceptable heater output temperatures, at four different outside air temperatures, are as follows:

Additional Fahrenheit temperature comparisons can be approximated by rounding off the outside air temperature to the nearest 5 degrees. When the outside temperature is below 50 degrees, for every additional 5 degrees of outside temperature, allow an additional 1.8 degrees of heater output temperature. When the outside temperature is above 50 degrees, allow an additional 1.6 degrees of heater output temperature for every 5 degrees of outside temperature.
