Engine Flywheel Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important: If replacing the manual transmission engine flywheel, note the location of any existing balance weights (if applicable). Install NEW balance weights into the new engine flywheel (if applicable). Engine flywheel balance weights must be installed into the new engine flywheel in the same locations as the old engine flywheel. A properly installed balance weight will be either flush or below flush with the face of the engine flywheel.


1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. 2. Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair in General Information.
3. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

* For the automatic transmission. 4. Remove the clutch assembly from the crankshaft if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
5. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
6. Remove any burrs from the end of the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the flywheel mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 88 Nm (65 lb ft).




3. Install the flywheel (manual) to the crankshaft.

Tighten the bolts to 88 Nm (65 lb ft).

4. Install the transmission to the vehicle.

* For automatic transmission. 5. Install the Clutch to the flywheel. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine)Battery Cable Replacement (Positive Cable) Service and RepairBattery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) in Engine Electrical.
