Wiper Blade: Testing and Inspection

Wiper Arm Tip Pressure Check, Blade Element Check

Wiper Arm Pressure Check

1. Run the wiper arm and the blade assemblies to the mid-wipe position.
2. Remove the blade assemblies from the arm assemblies.
3. Attach a scale to the end of the wiper arm and measure the force required to lift the wiper arm perpendicular to the windshield to the normal working height (the height with the blade assembly attached).

4. If the force required is not within the specifications given below, the wiper arm assembly should be replaced:
Tip Pressure - 7.8-9.5 Newtons (28-34 Ounces)

Blade Element Set Check

Remove the wiper blade assemblies from the wiper arm assemblies, being careful to note orientation for reassembly. Look down the length of the blade element. The rubber element which contacts the glass must be on the center line of the blade assembly +/- 15 degrees. Replace the element if necessary.
