TECHNICAL

Subject:
Rear Bumper Ends Loose at Wheel Openings
(Install New Fasteners)

Models:
1999-2001 Chevrolet Tracker

Condition

Some customers may comment that the ends of the rear bumper at the rear wheelhouse openings are loose. The condition may first appear after the vehicle has been through an automatic car wash.

Cause

The rotating side brushes/cloths of an automatic car wash may pull the ends of the rear bumper away from the body causing the push-in retainers to become loose or break.

Correction

Replace the two plastic push-in retainers on both ends of the rear bumper with screws (1) and nuts (J-clips).

Tighten

Tighten the screws to 3 N-m (27 lb in).
