Evaporator Core: Service and Repair
Air Conditioning Evaporator Core Replacement
Tools Required
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the HVAC module. Refer to Heater/Vent Module Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Remove the heater core and seal. Refer to Heater Core Replacement Service and Repair.
4. Remove the 6 screws that hold the evaporator case cover to the HVAC control module.
5. Remove the evaporator case cover.
6. Remove the evaporator core (7).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the evaporator core (7).
2. Install the evaporator case cover.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the 6 screws to the evaporator case cover.
Tighten the screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).
4. Install the heater core and seal. Refer to Heater Core Replacement Service and Repair.
5. Install the HVAC module. Refer to Heater/Vent Module Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
7. Leak test the fitting(s) of the component using the J 39400-A .
