Drive Belt: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove the coolant recovery bottle bolt.
3. Remove the coolant recovery bottle and set aside.





4. Install a 3/8 inch drive wrench on the tensioner arm and rotate the arm counterclockwise.





5. Remove the drive belt from the drive pulleys (if equipped with a single generator).




6. Remove the drive belt from the drive pulleys (if equipped with dual generators).
7. Slowly release the tension on the tensioner arm.

Inspection and Repair





1. Inspect the drive belt for excessive cracking or any damage to the drive belt.
2. Replace the drive belt if there is damage or excessive cracking.

Installation Procedure

Important: Refer to the Underhood Label for the proper drive belt routing graphic.

1. Install the belt over all the pulleys except the tensioner arm (if equipped a with single generator).





2. Install the drive belt over all the pulleys except the tensioner arm (if equipped a with dual generators).





3. Install a 3/8 inch drive wrench on the tensioner arm and rotate the arm counterclockwise.
4. Slowly release the tension on the tensioner arm.





5. Inspect for the drive belt being properly install on the pulleys.





6. Avoid mis-positioning the drive belt by one or more grooves.





7. Confirm for the proper drive belt size and the correct drive belt routing by observing the location of the fix pointer and index marks on the drive belt tensioner. With a new drive belt installed the fix pointer should align within the indentation on the drive belt tensioner.





8. With a used drive belt installed the fix pointer should not align past the index marks.





9. Install the coolant recovery bottle.
10. Install the air cleaner assembly.
