Housing Assembly HVAC: Service and Repair

HVAC MODULE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank.
4. Remove the battery from the vehicle.
5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the low pressure sensor.
6. Remove the accumulator.
7. Remove the evaporator tube from the evaporator.
8. Remove the insulator cover.
9. Remove the evaporator case front cover retaining screws.
10. Remove the evaporator front cover.
11. Separate the module halves.
12. Remove the nuts (2) retaining the HVAC module.
13. Remove the HVAC module from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the HVAC module to the vehicle.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the nuts (2) retaining the HVAC module.

Tighten
Tighten the HVAC module retaining nuts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

3. Install the evaporator front cover.
4. Install the evaporator case front cover retaining screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

5. Install the insulator cover.
6. Install the evaporator tube to the evaporator.
7. Install the accumulator.
8. Connect the electrical connectors to the low pressure sensor.
9. Install the battery to the vehicle.
10. Install the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank.
11. Fill the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
13. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A.
