Spark Plug Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURENOTE: This engine is equipped with an aluminum cylinder head. Allow the engine to cool before removing spark plugs. Removing the spark plugs from an engine at operating temperature may damage the spark plug threads in the cylinder head. Also be sure to clean any dirt or debris from around spark plug holes prior to removing spark plugs.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil.
2. Disconnect the two spark plug wires from the spark plugs
3. Remove the two bolts (1) and the 2-3 ignition coil (3) from the engine.
4. Remove the two bolts (1) and the 1-4 ignition coil (2) from the engine.
5. Remove each spark plug (1) from the cylinder head.
6. Inspect the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Inspection.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Measure the spark plug electrode gap and adjust as necessary. Refer to Ignition System Specifications.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install each spark plug (1) into the cylinder head.
Tighten
Tighten each spark plug to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
3. Install the number 2-3 ignition coil (3) to the number two spark plug.
4. Install the number 1-4 ignition coil (3) to the number four spark plug.
5. Secure both ignition coils to the engine with the tour bolts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
6. Connect the electrical connectors to the ignition coils.
