Engine Flywheel Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the transmission.
2. Remove the clutch assembly, if equipped.
3. Remove the flywheel bolts.
4. Remove the flywheel spacer if a flywheel spacer is used.

Important: If the flywheel is cracked or damaged replace the flywheel.

5. Remove the flywheel.
6. Clean and inspect the flywheel.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the flywheel.
2. Install the flywheel spacer if a flywheel spacer is used.

Important: You must thoroughly remove the old thread adhesive from the flywheel bolts and bolt holes. Use a round nylon bristle brush in order to remove the old adhesive.
Apply Loctite 271 GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent to all flywheel bolts. Carefully follow the instructions that are included with the thread locking compound in order to ensure that the bolts are retained properly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the flywheel bolts.
^ Tighten the flywheel bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the clutch assembly, if equipped.
5. Install the transmission.
