Bulletin No.: 03-09-41-001

Date: May, 2003

TECHNICAL

Subject:
SIR/Air Bag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Stays Illuminated, Possible DTC B0022 Set/Stored in History (Diagnose Condition/Replace SIR Coil, if Necessary)

Models:
2003 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup Models
2003 GMC Sonoma Pickup Models

Condition

Some customers may comment that the SIR/Air Bag MIL lamp is on and stays illuminated.

Service Diagnosis

1. Verify it any DTCs are present. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC B0022 present/stored in history.

2. If this DTC is present, inspect the SIR coil connection to the cross-body harness. Verify this by removing the knee bolster below the steering column to access this connection. Disconnect the connector. On the female side of the connector, the shorting bar may be crushed, which may be shorting the circuit. The shorting bar is located between the two female terminals on the connector.

Correction

If the diagnosis leads to a damaged SIR coil connection, replace the SIR coil in the steering column. Refer to the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement procedure (SI Document ID # 825475).
