Buzz, Rattle or Vibration Noise from Door Speakers with Radio Set on High Bass or High Volume (Isolate Rattles and Follow Applicable Repair)
Models:
2003-2006 Chevrolet SSR
Condition
Some customers may comment on a buzz, rattle or vibration noise from the door speakers when the radio is set on high bass and high volume.
Cause # 1
The door lock actuator may be rattling. Refer to the illustration above.
Cause # 2
The water deflector may be buzzing on the lock slider. Refer to the illustration above.
Cause # 3
The lock rod support clips may be loose to the holes in the door sheet metal.
Cause # 4
The door speaker may rattle to the door frame.
Cause # 5
The door trim panel may rattle against the door inner panel.
Correction # 1
2003-2005 Vehicles only
Replace the door lock actuator with a new one.
Correction # 2
Cut a small piece of the water deflector away from the lock slider. Refer to the illustration above. If the noise originates at another area than this, the deflector may have to be replaced to solve the noise concern.
Correction # 3
Remove the lock rod support clips and install a small piece of squeak reduction tape in the hole and reinstall the support clip.
Correction # 4
Tighten all the fasteners. If any of the fasteners are not tight, excessive noise may be expected. If the fasteners won't tighten, expect that the J-nut is stripped.
Replace as necessary.
Correction # 5
Visually inspect the door pad perimeter (especially at the lower edge) for gapping to the inner door sheet metal. If gapping is found, remove the door pad and replace any bent plastic fasteners.
