Body - Rattling Noise From Roof Header

Rattle Noise from Header with Roof Closed/Damaged Weatherstrip (Replace Striker Top Latch Assembly/Adjust Side Rail Up Stop/Replace Weatherstrip)

This bulletin is being revised to add model years with new repair procedures, parts and warranty information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-08-67-002A (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).
Condition
Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:
1. A rattle near the front of the windshield.
2. A damaged header weatherstrip.
Cause
1. A) A rattle caused by a missing striker pin grommet OR B) A misadjusted side rail up stop. Refer to the illustration above for missing grommet.
2. A bent hook on the striker top front latch may damage the weatherstrip.
Correction
1. A) Replace the striker top latch assembly. Refer to (B) Adjust the side rail up stop. Adjust up stop one half turn at a time. It may be necessary to repeat the adjustment until the rattle is gone. See the illustration above for up stop location.
2. Replace the weatherstrip if damage occurred from the hook on the striker top front latch (see procedure below).
Procedure for Correction # 2
1. Cycle the power folding top to the open position and open the doors.
2. Remove the push-in retainer and TORX(R) head screw that retains the weatherstrip to the header.
3. Start at the lower pillar area and remove the weatherstrip.
4. Clean the area with 3M General Purpose Cleaner.
5. Install the weatherstrip into the channel. Start at the corner of the header and the pillar.
6. Install the push pin retainer and the TORX(R) screw.
7. Cycle the power folding top to the closed position and close the doors.
