Condition

Some customers may comment that the pickup bed is wet in the back corners after a rainstorm.

Cause

Water builds up in the channel and becomes too great for the seals to withstand, causing water to flow past or under the seals into the bed corners.

Correction

Open the end gate.

Remove the end gate sill plate.

Clean the surface where the butyl is to be installed. Refer to the arrows in the illustration above.

Remove the end gate weatherstrip in the lower corners.

Apply a piece of butyl from the hem flange over to the hinge opening. Repeat for the other side.

Now apply a piece of butyl from hinge opening to hinge opening. Refer to the illustration above. These three pieces of butyl will act as a dam if any water gets around the seal and will allow the water to exit the vehicle through the hinge openings.

Reinstall the weatherstrip and end gate sill plate.
