Positive and Negative Battery Cable (14V) Replacement



POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE (14V) REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disconnect the energy storage box (ESB).
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.




3. Unsnap the positive battery cable cap.
4. Disconnect the positive battery cable.




5. Remove the left fender to cowl support brace bolts and brace.
6. Remove the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) cover.




7. Loosen the positive battery cable bolt at the UBEC.

IMPORTANT: The bolt is integral to the battery cable and is not removable.

8. Remove the positive cable from the UBEC.
9. Remove the nut at the UBEC.
10. Remove the positive cable from the UBEC.




11. Remove the harness clip bolt (1) from the junction block bracket.
12. Remove the junction block from the bracket.




13. Loosen the 14V positive/negative battery cable bolt (1).
14. Remove the red connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
15. Disconnect the 14V positive/negative battery cable.




16. Remove the 14V positive/negative cable clips (1) from the frame.




17. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
18. Remove the engine wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt (2).
19. Reposition the wiring harness ground (3) and battery cable ground (1).
20. Remove the forward lamp wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt (6).
21. Reposition the ground wire (5) and forward lamp harness ground (7).
22. Remove the battery cable channel bolt (4).
23. Remove the starter harness branch clips from the battery channel.
24. Slide the channel pin out of the oil pan tab.
25. Lower the vehicle.
26. Remove the 14V positive/negative battery cable.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the 14V positive/negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Slide the channel pin into the oil pan tab.
4. Install the starter harness branch clips to the battery channel.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the battery cable channel bolt (4).

Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

6. Position the ground wire (5) and forward lamp harness ground (7).
7. Install the forward lamp wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt (6).

Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

8. Position the wiring harness ground (3) and battery cable ground (1).
9. Install the engine wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt (2).

Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

10. Lower the vehicle.




11. Install the 14V positive/negative cable clips (1) to the frame.




12. Connect the 14V positive/negative battery cable.
13. Install the red CPA retainer.
14. Tighten the 14V positive/negative battery cable bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




15. Install the junction block to the bracket.
16. Install the harness clip bolt (1) to the junction block bracket.

Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




17. Install the positive cable to the UBEC.
18. Install the nut at the UBEC.
19. Position the positive cable to the UBEC.
20. Tighten the positive battery cable bolt at the UBEC.

Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




21. Install the UBEC cover.
22. Install the left fender to cowl support brace and bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




23. Connect the positive battery cable.

Tighten the bolt to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

24. Snap the positive battery cable cap closed.




25. Connect the negative battery cable.
26. Connect the ESB.
