DTC Descriptor
DTC P0833: Clutch Pedal Switch 2 Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The clutch start switch is a normally open switch. When the ignition is ON, and the clutch pedal is depressed, the clutch start switch will close, supplying B+ on the clutch start switch signal circuit to the powertrain control module (PCM). When the clutch pedal is released, the clutch start switch opens, resulting in zero voltage on the clutch start switch signal circuit. The PCM continuously monitors the voltage on the clutch start switch circuit.
Conditions for Running the DTC
No vehicle speed sensor DTCs P0502 or P0503.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PCM detects 7 changes in vehicle speed 0-38 km/h (0-24 mph) without the PCM detecting a clutch pedal transition.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
- DTC P0833 is a Type C DTC.
- The PCM disables cruise control.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTC P0833 is a Type C DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
The battery must be fully charged. Refer to Battery Inspection/Test, Battery Inspection/Test (Non-HP2)

Circuit/System Verification
1. Start the engine, with the clutch pedal depressed. The engine should start and run.
2. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the clutch start switch harness connector.
2. Ignition ON, test for 11-13 volts on the clutch start switch harness connector terminal A and ground.
-> If not within the specified range, test the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, refer to Symptoms - Engine Electrical, Symptoms - Engine Electrical
3. Ignition ON, test for less than 1 volt on the clutch start switch harness connector terminal B and ground.
-> If greater than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PCM.
4. Ignition OFF, connect the clutch start switch harness connector.
5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
6. Ignition ON, clutch pedal applied, test for 11-13 volts on C1 terminal 54 of the PCM harness connector.
-> If not within the specified value, test the clutch start switch signal circuit for a short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the clutch start switch.
7. If all circuits test normal, replace the PCM.
