DTC Descriptor
DTC P2267
- Water in Fuel Sensor Circuit High Voltage
Diagnostic Fault Information
Typical Scan Tool Data
Circuit/System Description
A sensor mounted in the bottom of the fuel filter housing is used to detect water in the fuel. The water in fuel (WIF) sensor has an indicator control circuit and a low reference circuit. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the voltage to the WIF sensor. If the voltage is incorrect, the ECM will illuminate the WIF lamp and set the appropriate DTC.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The engine is running.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The engine is running.
The WIF sensor voltage is more than 4.75 volts for more than 1 second.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The control module stores the DTC information into memory when the diagnostic runs and fails.
* The malfunction indication lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.
* The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Failure Records.
* The water in fuel lamp will illuminate in the instrument panel.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* A current DTC Last Test Failed clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
* A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other non-emission related diagnostic.
* The DTC has been cleared with a scan tool and the key has been cycled OFF in order to allow the ECM to power down.
Diagnostic Aids
The water in the fuel will not set this DTC, but the water in fuel lamp will illuminate if this DTC sets.
Circuit/System Verification
1. Observe the Water in Fuel Sensor voltage parameter with a scan tool. Voltage should be between 0.20-4.75 volts.
2. Engine running, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P2267 should not set.
3. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Turn OFF the ignition and disconnect the water in fuel sensor.
2. Turn ON the ignition and observe the Water in Fuel Sensor parameter with a scan tool.
• If the voltage reads more than 4.75 volts, test for a short to voltage.
• If the voltage reads less than 4.75 volts, Refer to Water-in-Fuel Lamp Inoperative. Water-in-Fuel Lamp Inoperative
Repair Instructions
