Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation

CHANGE OIL SOON

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the CHANGE OIL SOON message in the message center when the engine control module (ECM) determines that the engine oil needs to changed. The ECM sends a class 2 message to the IPC requesting warning message illumination. After the oil is changed, reset the engine oil monitor. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting.

LOW OIL LEVEL

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the LOW OIL LEVEL message in the message center if the powertrain control module (PCM) detects low engine oil level. The IPC receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the ECM.

LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE indicator in the IPC when the engine control module (ECM) detects low engine oil pressure, and the signal circuit is low. The IPC receives a class 2 message requesting the indicator illumination from the ECM.

LOW FUEL

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the LOW FUEL message in the message center and the LOW FUEL indicator in the IPC when the powertrain control module (PCM) determines that the fuel level is less than 8.2 percent. The IPC receives a class 2 message indicating the fuel level from the ECM.

LOW OIL PRESSURE

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the LOW OIL PRESSURE message in the message center when the engine control module (ECM) detects low engine oil pressure, and the signal circuit is low. The IPC receives a class 2 message requesting the warning message illumination from the ECM.

OVERSPEED

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the OVERSPEED indicator when the IPC detects that the vehicle speed is more than 120 km/h (75 mph).

SERVICE VEHICLE SOON

The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator when the engine control module (ECM) detects certain malfunctions that are not related to the emissions system. The DIC receives a class 2 message requesting warning message illumination from the ECM.
