DTC P02E7 Intake Air Flow (IAF) Position Sensor Performance

Circuit Description

The ECM controls the intake air flow (IAF) valve opening based on the engine running condition and by controlling the IAF valve solenoid. The IAF valve position is detected by the position sensor and relayed to the ECM.

If the ECM detects a variance between the actual IAF valve position and desired IAF valve position for a calibrated amount of time this DTC will set. (Position Error Diagnosis)

It the ECM detects that the IAF valve learned open or closed position is not within a predetermined range this DTC will also set. (Learned Position Error Diagnosis)

Condition for Running the DTC Position Error Diagnosis:

- DTCs P02E8 P02E9 P0652 and P0653 are not set.
AND the following conditions are met for longer than 10 seconds.
^ The battery voltage between 10 to 16 volts.
^ The ignition switch is ON.
^ The desired IAF valve position is stable.

Learned Position Error Diagnosis:

^ The battery voltage is between 10 to 16 volts.

Condition for Setting the DTC Position Error Diagnosis:

^ The ECM detects that the difference between the actual and the desired IAF valve position is more than 10% for longer than 5 seconds.

Learned Position Error Diagnosis:

Either of following condition is met:
^ The ECM detects that the IAF valve learned closed position is more than 115% or less than 85% when the ignition switch is OFF.
^ The ECM detects that the IAF valve learned open position is more than 13% or less than -13% when the ignition switch is OFF.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

^ The ECM illuminates the MIL on the second consecutive driving cycle when the diagnostic runs and fails. Refer to DTC Type Definitions for Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type B.
^ The ECM inhibits EGR valve control.
^ The ECM inhibits DPF regeneration control.

Condition for Clearing the DTC

^ Refer to DTC Type Definitions for Condition for Clearing the MIL/DTC - Type B.

Diagnostic Aids

^ If an intermittent condition is suspected refer to Intermittent Conditions in this section.
^ A sticking or intermittently sticking IAF valve may set this DTC.
^ A sticking IAF valve at full closed position will cause engine starting problem.
