Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The high voltage circuit impact detector (HVCID) utilizes a unidirectional 2-wire circuit. The HVCID modulates current on the interface to send ID, State of Health, and deployment commands to the serial data gateway module (SDGM). The SDGM serves as a power source and a ground for the HVCID. When the ignition is turned ON and input power from the SDGM is first detected, the HVCID responds by performing internal diagnostics and sending an ID to the SDGM. The HVCID continually communicates status messages to the SDGM, which determines if a fault is present in the HVCID circuit.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
B009F 00
The total number of HVCID sensors reporting does not match the SDGM calibration information.
B009F 11
The HVCID has a short to voltage.
B009F 12
The HVCID has a short to ground.
B009F 39
The HVCID circuit is open.
B009F 3A
The wrong HVCID sensor has been installed.
B009F 4A
The SDGM Calibration does not match the vehicle configuration.
B009F 73
The SDGM has received invalid serial data from the HVCID sensor. The HVCID sensor is malfunctioning.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The SDGM commands the driver information center (DIC) on the instrument panel cluster to display the "Service Hybrid System" message via serial data communications.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.
* A history DTC will clear once 40 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.
Diagnostic Aids
The HVCID sensor has many different internal configurations in the same external package. Ensure that the correct sensor part number is installed in the correct location.
Circuit/System Testing
Important: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector:
* The HVCID
* The SDGM module
* The HVCID wiring harness connector
* The SDGM wiring harness connector
1. Ignition OFF, if DTC B009F is current, disconnect the harness connector at the HVCID.
2. Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the SDGM.
3. Test the signal and voltage circuits between the SDGM and HVCID for a short to voltage, short to ground, or open/high resistance. Verify that a short to voltage, short to ground, or open/high resistance does not exist.
^ If any of the above conditions are found make the appropriate repair.
4. Reconnect all components, then ignition ON use the scan tool to clear the DTCs, then recheck for DTCs.
^ If DTC B009F is current replace the HVCID. After replacement refer to Repair Verification.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure. Verification Tests
* High Voltage Circuit Impact Detection Sensor Replacement (HP2)
Repair Verification
Ignition ON, use the scan tool to clear the DTCs, then recheck for DTCs.
If DTC B009F was current, replace the SDGM.
