Diagnostic Fault Information
Typical Scan Tool Data
Circuit/System Description
The hybrid battery assembly consists of 40 individual batteries. Each battery is rated at 7.2 volts. The batteries are connected together in series circuit. The battery energy control module (BECM) monitors the hybrid battery voltage on every two batteries for a total of 20 locations, across the battery assembly. The BECM will add the voltages at the 20 location together. The BECM multiplies the individual battery voltage measurements by 20 and compares the individual reading to the sum of the pack.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The vehicle power mode is RUN.
* Accessory voltage is 9-18 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* Ignition ON.
* The BECM measures the sum of all 20 batteries. The BECM multiplies each individual battery voltage measurements by 20 and compares the individual reading to the sum of the pack voltage. When these two voltage readings have a difference greater than 70 volts for 9 out of 10 seconds, this DTC will set.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, with scan tool, monitor all 1 through 20 hybrid battery voltage parameters. All hybrid battery voltage parameters should be within 11-19 volts.
2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
Danger: Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
The High Voltage Disabling procedure will perform the following tasks:
* Identify how to disable high voltage
* Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage
* Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
* Failure to follow the procedures exactly as written may result in serious injury or death.
Ignition OFF, disable the high voltage at the drive motor generator battery. Refer to High Voltage Disabling.
1. Remove the drive motor generator battery cover.
2. Disconnect the X4 harness connector at the BECM.
3. Connect the EL-48571 high voltage battery pin out box to the X4 harness connector.
4. Install the high voltage manual disconnect lever.
5. Test for 11-19 volts across all 20 battery voltage reference circuits.
^ If not within the specified range, replace the drive motor battery assembly.
6. If all circuits test normal, replaced the BECM.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the repair. Verification Tests
* Drive Motor Generator Battery Replacement
* Drive Motor Generator Battery Control Module and Bracket Replacement
