Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).




4. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor wiring harness connector.




5. Remove the vehicle speed sensor bolt (9).
6. Remove the vehicle speed sensor (10) from the extension case.




7. Remove the O-ring seal (11) from the vehicle speed sensor (10).

Important: Handle the vehicle speed sensor (10) carefully.


8. Inspect the vehicle speed sensor and O-ring seal for the following:

* Damaged connector
* Cracked housing
* Signs of rotor damage
* Cuts or nicks on the O-ring seal (11)

Installation Procedure




1. Install the O-ring seal (11) to the vehicle speed sensor (10).
2. Install the vehicle speed sensor to the extension case.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

3. Install the vehicle speed sensor bolt (9).

Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).




4. Connect the vehicle speed sensor wiring harness connector.
5. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Install the right front tire and wheel.Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
7. Lower the vehicle.
