P0671
DTC P0671, P0672, P0673 or P0674 Glow Plug Control CircuitCircuit Description
The glow control system is operated when the engine coolant temperature is low which allows easier engine starting. If the ignition switch is turned ON when the engine coolant temperature is low the ECM illuminates the glow indicator lamp and turns ON the glow plugs via the glow plug control module (GPCM). After a fixed time passes the ECM turns OFF the glow indicator lamp and the glow plugs via the GPCM. If the GPCM detects an open or short in a glow plug circuit the GPCM will send a message to the ECM via the controller area network (CAN) communication bus and sets DTC P0671 P0672 P0673 or P0674 depending upon which cylinder failed. This DTC will only run once per driving cycle within the enabling conditions.
Condition for Running the DTC
^ DTCs U0073 and U0106 are not set.
^ The battery voltage is between 10 to 16 volts.
^ The ignition switch is ON.
Condition for Setting the DTC
^ The GPCM detects an open or a short circuit in the plug circuit when the glow plugs are commanded ON.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
^ The ECM illuminates the MIL when the diagnostic runs and fails. Refer to DTC Type Definitions for Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type A.
Condition for Clearing the DTC
^ Refer to DTC Type Definitions for Condition for Clearing the MIL/DTC - Type A.
Diagnostic Aids
^ If an intermittent condition is suspected refer to Intermittent Conditions in this section.
Notice: Each DTC agrees with engine cylinder order.
^ P0671: Cylinder #1
^ P0672: Cylinder #2
^ P0673: Cylinder #3
^ P0674: Cylinder #4
