Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve: Service and Repair




Brake Proportion Valve Replacement
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning (Brake Fluid Irritant Warning).

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution (Vehicle Damage Warnings).

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the engine control module (ECM) cover (1).




2. Disconnect the brake master cylinder secondary inlet brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.




3. Disconnect the RF brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.




4. Disconnect the LR brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.




5. Disconnect the RR brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.




6. Disconnect the LF brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.




7. Disconnect the brake master cylinder primary inlet brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.




8. Loosen, but do not remove, the upper proportioning valve bracket bolt (1).




9. Remove the lower proportioning valve bracket bolt (1).




10. Lift the proportioning valve and bracket assembly (1) and remove the assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the proportioning valve and bracket assembly (1) to the vehicle.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).




2. Install the lower proportioning valve bracket bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




3. Tighten the upper proportioning valve bracket bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




4. Connect the brake master cylinder primary inlet brake pipe fitting (1).

Tighten the fitting to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).




5. Connect the LF brake pipe fitting (1).

Tighten the fitting to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).




6. Connect the RR brake pipe fitting (1).

Tighten the fitting to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).




7. Connect the LR brake pipe fitting (1).

Tighten the fitting to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).




8. Connect the RF brake pipe fitting (1).

Tighten the fitting to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).




9. Connect the brake master cylinder secondary inlet brake pipe fitting (1).

Tighten the fitting to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).




10. Install the ECM cover (1).
11. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Service and Repair)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Service and Repair).
