Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the left HVAC push pin (2).
6. Remove the left HVAC floor duct (1).
7. Fully lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
8. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) lower sound insulator panel, GMC or Chevrolet only. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement (GMC/Chevrolet) (Service and Repair).
10. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate, GMC only. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (GMC) (Service and Repair).
11. Remove the I/P cluster bezel, Chevrolet only. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (Chevrolet) (Service and Repair)Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (GMC) (Service and Repair).
12. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Remove the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair).
14. Remove the I/P storage compartment door. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Replacement (Service and Repair).
15. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (Radio Replacement).
16. Remove the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement (HVAC Control Module Replacement).
17. Remove the HVAC control module wire harness attachment (1) from the I/P substrate.
18. Remove the left I/P access cover.
19. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (Service and Repair).
20. If replacing the I/P, remove the headlamp switch bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair).
21. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Service and Repair).
22. Remove the trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
23. Remove the front upper speakers, if equipped. Refer to Front Upper Speaker Replacement (Front Upper Speaker Replacement).
24. Remove the right I/P access cover.
25. Remove the side window defogger outlet screw.
26. Remove the bolts securing the lower portion of the instrument panel to the vehicle.
27. Remove the bolts that secure the middle and upper portion of the instrument panel to the vehicle.
28. With the aid of an assistant, lift up from the bottom of the instrument panel in order to release the I/P from the positioning locators.
29. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
30. Place the I/P on a clean prepared surface.
31. If replacing the I/P, remove the passenger inflatable restraint I/P module. Refer to Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
32. If replacing the I/P, remove the air distribution duct vents from the instrument panel. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Air Distributor Duct Replacement).
Installation Procedure
1. If replacing the I/P, install the air distribution duct vents to the instrument panel. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Air Distributor Duct Replacement).
2. If replacing the I/P, install the passenger inflatable restraint module to the instrument panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. With the aid of an assistant, install the instrument panel to the vehicle.
Note: Ensure the wiring harnesses and electrical connectors are not pinched behind the instrument panel and are positioned for proper connection.
4. Fully seat the instrument panel to the positioning locators.
Note: Do not tighten the I/P retaining bolts until all of the bolts have been loosely installed.
5. Install the bolts securing the middle and upper portion of the instrument panel to the vehicle.
6. Install the bolts that secure the lower portion of the instrument panel to the vehicle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
7. Complete the installation of all of the bolts that retain the I/P to the vehicle.
Tighten the bolts to 7 Nm (62 lb in).
8. Install the side window defogger outlet screw.
Tighten the screw to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in).
9. Install the right I/P access cover.
10. Install the front upper speakers, if equipped. Refer to Front Upper Speaker Replacement (Front Upper Speaker Replacement).
11. Install the trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Install the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. If replacing the I/P, Install the headlamp switch bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair).
14. Install the headlamp switch to the bezel. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (Service and Repair).
15. Install the left I/P access cover.
16. Install the HVAC control module wire harness attachment (1) to the I/P substrate.
17. Install the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement (HVAC Control Module Replacement).
18. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (Radio Replacement).
19. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Service and Repair).
20. Install the I/P cluster bezel, Chevrolet only. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (Chevrolet) (Service and Repair)Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (GMC) (Service and Repair).
21. Install the I/P accessory trim plate, GMC only. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (GMC) (Service and Repair).
22. Install the I/P lower sound insulator, GMC or Chevrolet only. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement (GMC/Chevrolet) (Service and Repair).
23. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (Service and Repair).
24. Install the I/P compartment door. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Replacement (Service and Repair).
25. Install the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair).
26. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
27. Install the left HVAC floor duct (1).
28. Install the left HVAC floor duct push pin (2).
29. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
30. Install the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
31. Install the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair).
32. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
