TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 09-05-26-001

Date: January 26, 2009

Subject:
Park Brake Lever Will Not Release (Adjust Metal Flange on Park Brake Base Bracket)

Models:
2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Condition

Note:
The Park Brake Lever must be in the full apply position to check for this concern.

Some customers may comment that the park brake lever will not release from the bottom/full apply position. To verify the concern, apply the park brake lever to the bottom/full apply position. Remove your foot from the pedal. Push the pedal again to activate, then push to release the mechanism. If the pedal will not return, then follow this procedure for correction.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the pawl lever not releasing from the bottom position.

Correction

1. Disengage the park brake lever by applying load to the pedal and using a screwdriver or other device (1) to push the pawl upward (2). Release pressure from the pedal lever and allow the pedal to return.

2. Trim the carpet edge (1) to below the park brake lever bracket (2).

3. Use pliers or vice grips (1) to bend the metal flange on the base bracket (2) forward in vehicle. Move the bracket 1-2 mm (0.039-0.079 in).

4. Verify that the park brake lever will apply and release from the bottom/full apply position.

5. If the condition cannot be corrected using these steps, then replace the park brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement in SI.
